Cevees start campaign in PRISAA National Games

Private Schools Athletic Association-VII, composed mostly of Cebu-based athletes, starts its bid for supremacy today in the 2008 PRISAA National Games at the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex in Zamboanga City.

The region’s cagers immediately start their title defense in basketball against Region IV-A at 8:30 am.

PRISAA-VII, represented mainly by players from the University of San Carlos with reinforcements from the University of San Jose-Recoletos, is bracketed alongside regions 1, 2, 4, 5 and host Zamboanga.

At 9:30m, the Central Visayas cagebelles will take on host Zamboanga. The USC Wariorettes hope to grab the gold the University of Cebu (UC) Lady Webmasters missed in last year’s edition of the annual athletic meet.

On the other hand, Region 7’s table tennis squad will battle first Region V.

The schedules of other sporting events are still being finalized by the organizers as of this writing and will be made available only after the opening ceremonies late yesterday afternoon.

The Region 7 men’s volleyball squad is bracketed with regions 6, 9, 10, 11, and 12.

Aside from the ball games, competition in athletics, swimming, badminton, chess, and karatedo are also set to commence today.

Last year, PRISAA-VII settled for third place overall in the week-long sports conclave with 43 gold, 67 silver, and 50 bronze medals. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
