Cokaliong Shipping, Kwong Bee Sausage thwart foes in CECABA caging

Cokaliong Shipping ‘98-A and Kwong Bee Sausage 2005 triumphed over separate foes in contrasting fashion in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association’s 10th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup on Friday night at the CEC Gym.

Rex Millan erupted with a season-high 30 points to propel Class ‘98-A to a 61-41 shellacking of JV Bakeshop 2002, while Class 2005 met tough resistance before repulsing JRJ Enterprises 2007, 49-43.

Millan, who also had seven rebounds, four steals and three assists, was ably backed up by Paul Timothy So, who recorded the season’s first triple-double signifying his all-around hard brilliance.

So was very explosive on all fronts that he was just four steals shy from carving out a historic quadruple-double feat. He finished with 15 points, 15 rebounds, 10 assists, and six steals to help Class ‘98-A notched its fourth win in 10 starts.

Class ‘98-A sailed on smoothly to victory after getting off to a flying start 15-5. The lead snowballed to 21 points at the end of the third period, 48-27, leaving Class 2002 in disarray the rest of the way.

Arthur Macias was the lone double-digit scorer with 11 points for Class 2002, which further wallowed at the bottom of the standings with only one win in 10 games.

In the other game, Kent Benedict Uy topped Class 2005 with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and two steals. Philip John Lua also chalked up 15 markers on top of three rebounds and two steals as they improved to 5-4.

Kenneth Ang chipped in 11 points and five rebounds for Class 2005, which rode on a solid final-half show to turn back Class 2007. The Sausage Makers trailed by four at halftime, 20-24, but outclassed the youngest graduates in the last two quarters, 29-19, to settle the outcome in their favor.

Raymark Ryan Ong was held off to only 12 points as Class 2007 slipped to 4-5.
