To ensure a balanced competition, the Lapu-Lapu Chiefs and Bogo Bogoys have been allowed by the organizers to hire reinforcements for the 3rd National Inter-City League Invitational Championships set from April 20 to 26 at the San Andres Gym and Cuneta Astrodome.
Presented by former Congressman Prospero “Butch” Pichay, the week-long cagefest will be co-hosted by Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim and his Pasay counterpart Pewee Trinidad.
The Chiefs are under Group A together with hosts Manila and Pasay, Quezon City and an amateur team from Seoul, South Korea. The Bogoys are bracketed alongside Mandaluyong, Malabon, Trece Martirez City, and a team from Nanan, China.
The competition follows a single round robin format with the top two teams per bracket at the end of the classification round advancing into the crossover semifinals. The winners will then clash for the championship in a winner-take-all affair.
Noted basketball patron Lorenzo “Chao” Sy, the brainchild of the first ever Cebu Inter-City cage wars topped by the Lapu-Lapu Chiefs of coach Larry Villanil, said the Chiefs and Bogoys can beef up their respective rosters even with ex-pros as long as they are Cebuanos. (GGM)
