Balais, 2 other Cebuanos make RP Paragames team

Arnold Balais, Noel Gonzales and Roselyn Ocampo made it to the 110-member RP delegation to the 4th ASEAN Paragames in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand from January 17 to 27.

The RP contingent is composed of athletes who are visually (partial or total) impaired, orthopedically handicapped including amputees, polio victims or spinal cord injured, mentally-challenged and those with cerebral palsy.

Balais and fellow amputee Gonzales will be competing in swimming while Ocampo again will compete in athletics.

Both Balais and Gonzales will vie in three swimming events and under separate classification of disability.

The veteran Balais will swim in the 50-m and 100-meter butterfly and the 50-m freestyle events while newcomer Gonzales, an amputee in the arm and leg, is competing in the 50, 100 and 200-m freestyle.

Ocampo, for her part, will again compete in the wheelchair race.

Balais told The Freeman that this will be his last stint in swimming as he plans to shift to athletics and will try his luck in some throwing events. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
