Alta Vista’s Christmas golfest

The Christmas Fun Golf Classic of Alta Vista Golf and Country Club is taking place next weekend.

This is a one-day to play event using the strokeplay format.  While the tournament is exclusive for members of the club, guests would be allowed to join as long as they are invited by the sponsors to use the slots that would be allocated for the event’s backers.

The tournament committee is set to meet this morning to finalize all the details.

Registration fee is only P2,500 and the list up is now ongoing at the AVGCC registration counter.

The tournament is giving away a pair of Bolle golf shades worth P6,000 to each participant.  This is on top of the minor and major raffle prizes plus the sumptuous dinner during the awards ceremony.

If you want to choose whether you play on the 15th or the 16th of December, I suggest you register early so you’ll get the priority.

See you at Alta Vista and let’s enjoy the Christmas tournament. By the way, make sure you register early since the slots might run out.

I had a chance to watch one of two semifinal matches of the Manny Pacquiao (MP) Cup Basketball Tournament as I covered the SCBHABA-CECABA match for CCTN Sports.

Too many abbreviations?

SCBHABA stands for San Carlos Boys High Alumni Basketball Association while CECABA means Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association.  CCTN of course stands for Cebu Catholic Television Network, which broadcasts on channel 47 over free TV and channel 56 over SkyCable TV.

The SCBHABA squad, which was coached by my former classmate and ex-pro Lou Regidor, won the match by a one-point margin to advance to the final this Sunday against Team Pacman.

CECABA will clash with the Punta Princesa Sports Association (PPSA) for third place.

The tournament is sort of a grander version of a barkadahan type event where the teams are representatives of clubs or unofficial groups bound together by the love for basketball.

If you have time this Sunday, head to the University of San Carlos Gymnasium at corner Junquera and Sanciangko Sts. and witness the action starting with the battle for third place at 4 p.m.

I also heard that Manny Pacquiao would be there so this would be a good time to see the boxing icon in person.

MILESTONES: I’d like to wish a belated happy birthday the entertainment editor of Banat News Ryan Mark, who turned a year older yesterday.

Belated greetings also go to my classmate Dr. Gerladine Alcarez-Co, who also celebrated yesterday.

Congratulations to another classmate, Kerrwin O. Sanchez, who is tying the knot tomorrow with Mai-mai Durano.

December surely is a time for many celebrations.  More power to all of you!
