Lagman only good for bronze

The Penang leg of the Malaysian Junior Tennis Circuit is proving to be a thorn on the side of Pinoy junior netters, specifically the Cebuanos.

A day after Marc Tabotabo failed to win two titles, Jacob Lagman could only win a bronze in the singles event of the boys’ 12-under, falling to Ahmmad Deedat 4-6, 4-6.

The win, however, completes the medal collection of Lagman having earlier won gold and silver, and now bronze. The collection is a good b-day gift to his father-coach Jess, who will be celebrating his golden birthday tomorrow.

Krissianne Kintanar also had her misfortunes in Penang as she settled for silver in both the singles and doubles finals of the girls’ 10-under division.

Niño and Sally Mae Siso will try restoring some sense into the Pinoys’ stint by advancing to the final of their divisions.

Niño beat Kenneth Tanwei 6-4, 6-0, to advance to the finals of the boys 14-under division while little sister Sally Mae took the measure of Nicole Rosenberger of Singapore 6-2, 6-1, to book a final ticket in the girls’ 14-under class.

Niño will meet his doubles partner Pearjit Singh in the championship. Before that game, Siso and Singh will tackle Hoo Seng Cheh and Tanwei Shen for the 14-under doubles crown.

On the other hand, Sally Mae and Theviya Selvarajoo play in the doubles against either a Korean or Malaysian pair. Then, the following day, Sally Mae will play Selvarajoo for the girls’ 14-under title.
