Vince Marc "Mac-Mac" Tabotabo became the first Cebuano to advance to the quarterfinal of the Penang International Age-Group Tennis Championships in Penang, Malaysia yesterday.
Tabotabo showed little effects of a four-hour travel from Selangor to Penang to dump two rivals in one day.
The Tuburan native, now studying at the Jose Rizal University, opened his bid in the 10-under division with a 9-2 victory over Neo Khai Keat. Tabotabo then followed it up with another 9-2 score over Raahil Divyesh Doshi of Singapore.
Tabotabo's opponent in the quarters is Korea's Jeon Seonglo.
Nino Siso, the top seed in the boys' 14-under category, hurdled his first round opponent, Malaysian Revinthiran 6-3, 6-3.
The FREEMAN learned that Siso's division drew the most number of participants with 128 entries.
The results of other Pinoy junior netters, including that of Sally Mae, Jacob Lagman, Krissianne Kintanar and Manila's Marian Capadocia are still unavailable as of this writing.
Sally Mae, Nino's sister, is the number one seed in the girls' 14-under division. —Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
