Carreon leads Sugbu to national tablenet fest

Neilben “Tata” Carreon will lead the Greater Cebu Sports Organizing Committee (GCSOC) squad to the 7th Lopue’s Table Tennis Association (LOPTTA) National Invitational Table Tennis Championship set for November 9 to 11 at the LOPTTA Table Tennis Center in Lopue’s San Sebastian Annex building in Bacolod City.

Carreon got the nod after his impressive showing in the 2007 Erne Jawad Cup where he won the open division title over highly touted Michael Motel.

The Cebuano table tennis star will play alongside other players from the University of Cebu including the Motel siblings – Michael and Mary Grace and Glendo Nayre.

Jessica Jawad-Honoridez, who will coach the team, hopes that Carreon’s determination (after his 5-year sabbatical from table tennis) will rub on to other players and expects Cebu to be force to reckon with during the prestigious 3-day tournament.

The team will try to bring home the trophy and the P25,000 prize money that goes with it.

Earlier, Honoridez has been invited to play in the international veteran’s tournament in Manila.

Noted sportsman Jonathan Guardo will foot the bill for Cebu’s participation in the Bacolod tournament. —Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
