Team Badian beat Oslob, 25-23, 25-23, to collar the cluster II title in the 3rd Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball Cup for Women at their turf over the weekend.
Kimberly Gendrauli and Melfa Gador led Badian’s attack in the crucial stretches of the match as Oslob battled Badian point for point.
Badian pocketed P20,000 for its sterling performance and will represent cluster II in the forthcoming cluster championships. Oslob, the top cluster II-A team, got the P10,000 for finishing second plus the other championship slot.
Badian came into the match with a perfect 5-0 win-loss slate in clusted II-B. The team recorded two early wins and then gained three more wins on their way to the title. One of the hardest wins was against Moalboal, that was undefeated (4-0) going into the match.
After that win against Moalboal, Badian had the luxury of dropping its last game – a no bearing match – against Ronda and still face Oslob for the title game but chose to play to win, which they did.
Moalboal wound up with 4-1 win-loss card, Dumanjug has 3-2, Alegria with 2-3 and both Ronda and Alcantara finished with a win and four losses.
After the battle in cluster II, action shifts to Aloguinsan for the cluster III action this Saturday. Cluster III features five squads including Barili, Aloguinsan, Balamban, Asturias and Tuburan. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
