Close to 70 licensed architects and their respective guests from all over Cebu and its neighboring provinces will converge today for the 3rd United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) Badminton Cup at the Racquet Zone of Montebello Villa Hotel in Brgy. Apas, this city.
Tournament organizer Archt. Alan G. Choachuy of Big Al’s Production advised all the participants to come to the venue early as the competition promptly starts at 8 am. Free jersey and lunch will be given to all players.
Spearheaded by the UAP Lapu-Lapu Chapter under the leadership of Lawrence “Lord” Young and Christopher Dy in association with Boysen, DuraBEND, and Jo’s Chicken Inato, the one-day tilt features men’s, mixed and women’s doubles.
However, it is open to level D & E players only. At least one partner of a pair should be a licensed architect.
Just like last year, there will also be a special category for the Cebu Sports Media Association (CSMA) members.
Current and former national team members, active varsity and level A, B and C players are barred from joining the event co-presented by Hardiflex, Hardiflex Senepa, Hardiplank, Filmon Hardware, Inc., Andorra Tile Roofings Inc., Republic Powder Coat, American Seamless Gutter, Worldwide Interiors, Value Builders, Graphic Star/Solflex/Sparko Coatings and Armour Wood.
The participants will play a single round robin format with each pair guaranteed to play at least two games. Each level will be divided into two groups, depending on the number of entries. The top two ranked pairs will advance to the crossover semis, with the winners clashing for the championship.
Aside from trophies, the champion in all levels will receive P3,000 each, while the second placers will get P2,000 apiece.
Another highlight of the annual event is the photo contest wherein the top three winners will receive P3,000, P2,000, and P1,000, respectively. — EBV
