Cebuano fighters Jeffrey “Marc Hojas” Alcaraz and Engei “The Destroyer” Piloto of Yaw-Yan Cebu ArDigma made shortwork of their foes in dominating fashion in the well-attended Ground & Pound III Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts Supreme Challenge National Championships the other night at the Cebu Coliseum.
Alcaraz, fighting out of the Cagayan de Oro City-based Jasaan Team, needed just 48 seconds to force Kyle “Superman” Thomas into submission with an arm bar. It was actually Thomas who executed an arm bar assault, but the American ended up fracturing his left arm that rendered him unfit to continue the fight scheduled for three rounds under the heavyweight division.
Piloto, on the other hand, used a perfect triangle choke to stop Elmer “D Hammer” Jandayan of Tagbilaran City’s Sagravate Pitfighting Society at the 2:03 mark of the first round in their welterweight duel.
Piloto initially grappled for a guillotine choke, but made a quick transition to a triangle choke that worked effectively in clamping down Jandayan.
In the other mixed martial arts bouts, Maxlito “Hyper Eagle” Yong of Lapu-Lapu City’s Yaw-Yan Musang pulled off a TKO win over Tata “Tornado” Galendez of Muay Thai Butuan in 2:44 of the second round, while Jovito “Young Hercules” Abellana of Cebu City’s Calma Stable completely dominated Nards “D Fire” Hernaez, prompting referee Jonas Azarcon to wave off the match at 3:29 of round 2.

In the kickboxing action, Jar-R “Matador” Villagracia of Yaw-Yan ArDigma Makati scored a TKO victory over Jober “D Survivor” Baylin of Wushu-Sanchou Club of Cagayan de Oro City.
The referee stopped the match upon the advise of the ringside physician before the start of the fourth and final round as Baylin sustained a broken nose caused by Villagracia’s punishing knee strikes.
Villagracia’s stablemate, Michael “Buhawi” Duncan, was also impressive in clobbering Robert “D Lightning” Taño of Arcomjukai Kickboxing Club. Taño yielded before the start of the fourth round due to injury.
