Verano lifts Rama-Bullo to championship plum in GAA

Jun Verano exploded with five triples as Rama-Bullo pulled off a convincing 64-55 victory over Egpyt Sportwear to claim the Guadalupe Athletic Association (GAA) 7th Founder's Cup crown last Sunday at the Guadalupe Sports Complex.

In the battle for third, Aqua Serv defeated the G&S International, 70-61.

Verano, who finished with 17 points, hit three of his five triples in the payoff period that helped Rama-Bullo post its biggest lead at 15 points, 56-41, with 4:50 left in the contest.

When the dust settled, the Samboy Lim-look alike pointguard emerged as the hands down choice as MVP.

Team owner and former Cebu vice governor Enric Rama said his wards really wanted to win.

"We did it by teamwork and by our fighting spirit," said Rama.

Bebot Alquizola and Ramir Nabua combined for 24 points to lead Egpyt, but the missing links were Jeffrey Diola and Serge Cortes, who were handcuffed to a combined eight-point output.

Earlier, Marvin Capili showed the way for Aqua Serv with 17 points.

Capili was joined in the scoring parade by Sitong Francisco, Armstrong Fernandez and Sam Llevado, who conspired for 38 points. Playing coach and GAA vice president Allan Ricaña had only three points.

Don Guillen topscored for G&S International with 20 markers.
