The Bautista-Bonilla showdown is one of the supporting bouts of Marco Antonio Barrera's WBC super featherweight title defense against fellow Mexican Rocky Juarez.
Bautista, the reigning WBO Asia Pacific bantamweight champion, plunges in his fourth fight in the US - his second at the Staples Center. In his first ring appearance at the homecourt of NBA's LA Lakers, Bautista knocked out Mexican Felix Flores Murillo in the third round.
This also marks Bautista's first fight under the aegis of Golden Boy Promotions, his promotional outfit in the US.
In his previous bout in December last year at the Sycuan Resort and Casino in California, Bautista courageously recovered from an earth-shaking second round knockdown to outpoint the iron-chinned Mexican Gerardo Espinoza via eight-round shutout. That was Boom Boom's most impresive victory in his career, so far.
The 19-year-old Bautista holds a 19-0 win-loss record spiked with 14KOs, while Bonilla, 31, sports a 22-7 ledger with 13KOs.
Bonilla lost in his bid to wrest the interim WBA super bantamweight title by seventh round TKO to celestino Caballero the last time he fought on February 24 this year in Panama.
