Cebuanos invited to play in denmark, Singapore football events

Cebu football received two invitations to join foreign tournaments later this year, said Cebu Football Association president Jonathan Maximo.

Maximo said the invitations for Cebu teams to compete in the Dana Cup in Denmark on July 10-15 and the International Youth Cup in Singapore on October 29 to November was sent through Pabol Association (Patid Bola).

"Our target really is to sent a team and starting next week we will try to identify players. We will explore the possibility to play internationally and send teams depending on our financial availability," said Maximo.

Maximo, who is also the organizer of PaBol, said it was the second time that they were invited to join but they hardly had time for preparation.

In the Singapore Cup, three age-groups playing an 11-aside format will be featured namely U-16, U1-5, and U-14 while the Dana Cup has more age-brackets from Boys and Girls U-13 to U-18 (11-aside) and Boys 11-12 (seven-aside).

"I hope we can generate support from the private sectors and we will endorsed this to the LGU, if they can adapt this as part of their youth development program. We have no problem with training, its more of the financial and the logistics support," added Maximo.

Although, it's also a matter of financial availability Maximo said they will assess first what age group is the strongest in Cebu.

On the other hand, Maximo said they are still waiting for the word from the new Cebu City Sports Commission with regard to its participation in the International Children's Games in Thailand in July.

"Yayoy (Alcoseba) is still waiting for their official declaration but at least we are always ready because we can not go there (ICG) without the endorsement of the city government," said Maximo.
