Moreno dominates Ocleasa chess tourney

Carlos Moreno III maintained his composure to beat Nick Cuizon in the final round and win the open division title of the Ocleasa chess tournament.

Moreno outlasted Quizon after 25 pushes to claim the championship via an impressive 5-0 sweep.

University of San Carlos' Kim Steven Yap settled for second place with 3.0 points after defeating Antonio Cabibil in 28th moves using French opening.

Cuizon and Cabibil finished third and fourth, respectively, after racking up 2.0 points apiece.

Leo Cortes, on the other hand, beat Danny Cortes using Pirc opening to top the unrated divison with 4.5 points.

Bonjo Lanorias had 4.0 points to land at second place followed by Cortes, Rudyard Caspe and Jose Presilda.

Meanwhile, Cuizon scored sweet redemption by ruling the 2005 Veco Chess tournament.

Cuizon subdued Noel Modesto to score a perfect 5.0 points.

Trailing Cuizon were Jermz Caballo with 4,0 points, Nelson Perez and Ronald Chan who had 3.5 points each.
