Tri-Media Mayor's Cup

After its absence a year ago, the Mayor Tomas Osmeña Tri-Media Cup has been revived this year. Various sporting activities both in the individual and team categories are held at the different venues in Cebu City participated in by employees and staff of the different tri-media outfits (i.e. newspapers, TV & radio stations).

The Freeman is looking forward to defending its championship in the sport of badminton both in the men's and women's events. The badminton games are done in the team format where there are three matches that are played. The first match is men's/women's singles. The second is the men's/women's doubles. The third match which is the second singles will only be played as a decision match if there is a tie between two opposing teams after the 1st and 2nd match. The player of the 1st singles match cannot play in the 2nd and 3rd matches.

The Freeman team has increased its pool of players with the participation of its GM Boy Mendoza, advertising manager Tina Poblador, sports editor Manny Villaruel, and columnist Alen Tan.

Apart from badminton, this columnist will be playing again in volleyball. It's fortunate that badminton and volleyball will both be held today at the Cebu City Sports Center (Abellana). The Mint Sportshop sponsored Freeman Team will once again try to grab top honors for volleyball especially with the participation of columnists Nimrod Quiñones, Atty. Joseph Gonzalez, ace photographer Iste Sesante, and marketing exec. Janet Montenegro. New players are expected to boost the strength of the team.

The championship games for both sporting events will be on November 6 at the same venue. Good Luck to The Freeman Team!
