Caraquel, Esmalen hope to keep lead in RECYCLE

Lyndyl Caraquel and Hydie Esmalen hope to duplicate their winning performances when the RECYCLE Road Cyclist of the Month of October resumes at the Mandaue City reclamation area today.

The race today will be a criterium race with Caraquel as the top rider to beat in class B and Esmalen in class C.

Behind Caraquel in the overall standing is Sammy Tanieza and Xerox Lauron is at third place.

In class C, trailing Esmalen is Nonoy Rosales and Nestor Sy.

In another development, the RECYCLE event today will also be used to raise funds for the family of the late Epifacio Navarro.

Navarro, one of the top cyclists in the mid-90s who joined the just-concluded Talisay City Fiesta Race without proper gear, no helmet and wearing only slippers, crushed badly in the finish line area.

Navarro, who earns a living as a trisikad driver, was rushed to the hospital, but expired last Tuesday.

Help are welcome even from non-cyclists and the contact person is RECYCLE's Dr. Jose Vicente "JV" Araneta. - Caecent No-ot
