Arlos, Barcelona suffer contrasting Fates abroad

Filipino boxers Jun Arlos and Jaime Barcelona suffered contrasting fates in their recent fights abroad.

Arlos (33-17-4, 14KOs) scored a stunning knockout victory over the World Boxing Association (WBA) ranked No. 6 mimimumweight Jae-won Kim of Korea (19-3-2, 6 KOs) on Tuesday night at the Gyungju-gymnasium in Gyungju City, South Korea.

The Muntinlupa City-native Arlos flattened Kim at 1:27 of round seven in a scheduled ten rounder fought in the flyweight division. With the upset win, Arlos is expected to skyrocket into the WBA rankings.

While Arlos basked in the glory of his stirring conquest, his compatriot Barcelona was on a pensive mood after being stopped by WBO No. 7 featherweight contender Terdsak Jandaeng on the very same night at the City Hall Ground of Nakornrachasima Province, Thailand.

Jandaeng dropped Barcelona three times, in round two, round four and the last time at 0:57 of round nine to retain his World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia Pacific super featherweight crown.

Jandeng improved his win-loss record to 19-1 now spiked with 14KOs. He absorbed his lone setback at the hands of Joan "Little Tyson" Guzman in their WBO featherweight elimination bout last August 26.

On the other hand, Barcelona, who opened a cut on Jandaeng's left eyebrow due to accidental headbutt, slipped to 20-26-1 with 6KOs.
