Executive's Cup fires off Sunday

The 2005 Executive's Cup basketball season blasts off this Sunday with an exciting quadruple-header on tap at the City Sports Club of Cebu gym.

Games on Sunday
1:30 pm CECABA All Stars vs. SHABA selection
3:00 pm LISO selection vs. Club Monday
4:30 pm JBA selection vs. CECABA selection
6:00 pm Guardo-Rama Boys vs. SCBHABA selection.

In the season opener set at 1:30 pm, Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association All Stars take on the Sacred Heart Alumni Basketball Association selection, while the defending champion Liloanon Sports Organization starts its title-retention bid against last year's runner-up Club Monday in the second game at 3:00 pm.

The Jaycees Basketball Association selection battles the CECABA selection in the third game, while strong title contender San Carlos Boys High Alumni Basketball Association takes on Guardo-Rama Boys Barkada in the main attraction at 6:00 pm.

The CECABA All Stars will be led by dreaded streak-shooter Chester Cokaliong, who expected to get the much needed help from star center Sammy Sia and Joel Chan, the league's rebounding king and assists leader, respectively, last season.

They will also count on Henrich Chua, Edvin Kaw, Zotico Tan, Wilson Yu, Melton Dy and Joven Cimafranca to contribute offensively.

Expected to pick up the scoring cudgels for SHABA are Eric Casas, Neil Carcel, Galvin Lim and Neil Lim.

The team to watch out for is the SCBHABA selection, which seeks payback after a frustrating fourth-place finish last season.

Reigning MVP Edwin Banaag will once again be at the cornerstone of SCBHABA's campaign along with Paul Abais, Virgil Pua, Jeffrey and Jonathan Diaz, Roque Amores, Jone Sepe, Virgil Pua and Graciano Moriles.

Their might will be first tested when they take on the Guardo-Rama Boys, which is banking on Cebu City Vice Mayor Michael Rama, Cebu City Sports Commission chairman Jonathan Guardo, former top collegiate coach Pablo Yu and shooting lawyer Joey Daluz.

LISO, on the other hand, is pinning its back-to-back championship hopes on Philip and Danilo Oncines along with Abner Desiderio, Renato Jugalbot, Venicio Pepito and Mario del Mar, while forming the core of Club Monday roster are Demosthenes Alfeche, Stephen Reyes, Raul Monterroyo, Eugene Nardo, Carlito Macasero and Venci del Mar.

The JBA squad is powered by Benedict Chua, Gilbert Purcia and Charlie Tolentino.

Also a force to reckon with is the CECABA selection manned by Samuel Co, Cesar Ting, Christopher Cokaliong, Stephen Tan, James Yu, Edwin Lim and Stephen Lee.
