Armed man who tried to resist arrest shot

CEBU, Philippines - A man was injured after he was shot by a policeman when he allegedly attempted to resist arrest Monday evening at the South Road Properties, Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City.

Romulo Marina, a resident of Sitio Manga in Barangay Mambaling, sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg after he was shot by Police Officer 1 Ian Jude Montellano.

PO3 Diosdado Andales, desk officer of Mambaling Police Station, said they received a phone call from a concerned citizen about the presence of an armed person at SRP.

Montellano and fellow PO1 Ronnel Cabansay responded to the area. They approached Marina and identified themselves as police officers.

Andales said that Marina, who was carrying a sling bag, reportedly drew a cal. 38 revolver, which prompted Montellano to shoot him.

Marina was rushed to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for medical treatment.

The police recovered the firearm with ten live rounds, a black holster and the sling bag from Marina.

Andales said they have already filed a case against Marina for illegal possession of firearms. —(FREEMAN)
