CEBU, Philippines - The Metro Cebu Bridge Management Board (MCBMB) is proposing to install more Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras to mitigate theft cases under the bridge.
Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, who presided the MCBMB meeting yesterday morning, said that based on reports, a number of theft incidents under the Mandaue-Mactan bridge have been recorded.
This, even with 19 security guards already detailed under the bridge supposedly to lessen the cases of steel bar-thefts in the said area.
But Magpale said that they would need to assess the proposal first since they have two concerns before it would be materialized.
Initially, Magpale said they would need to determine where to place the cameras.
Also, she said they would need to determine how to secure the cameras.
“What assurance do we have na dili kab-uton,†said Magpale, adding that she created a Technical Working Group to look into the concerns more.
The additional cameras are estimated to cost P4M. At present, there are already around 40 cameras placed all over the bridge.
Magpale said that more cameras will be installed in both the Mandaue-Mactan Bridge and the Marcelo Fernan Bridge but they will start with the first bridge since most of the theft incidents on steel bars happened there.— (FREEMAN)
