CEBU, Philippines - A woman lost P200,000 worth of jewelry to her own son who reportedly stole the said valuable from their own home in Barangay Apas.
Juana Flores, 62, discovered the burglary at 10 pm last Saturday and immediately suspected her son, 40-year-old Erwin Flores, as the one who stole the valuables.
Yesterday afternoon, the elder Flores went to the Theft and Robbery Section of the Cebu City Police Office to report the incident and requested the police to arrest her son after the latter went missing since the valuables were stolen.
Juana was accompanied by Erwin’s daughters, who also attested to the crime.
Flores, who works at Decca Homes, also has a residence in Barangay Bacayan, where she sometimes sleeps.
Last Saturday, she went home to Barangay Apas, where her son and his family also live.
Juana proceeded to her room, which she locked before leaving, only to discover her things in disarray, and the jewelry pieces already missing.
She looked around and saw a hole in the ceiling.
“Pagtan-aw nako, buslot na ang kisame. Gigabas diay, (I checked and saw a hole in the ceiling. It was made using a saw.)” Juana told police.
Immediately suspecting her son Erwin to be the culprit, Juana went looking for him but he was no longer around.
Juana said her son is a drug addict and has undergone rehabilitation for four times already owing to his drug addiction.
The victim further said that she has lost P500,000 worth of jewelry pieces to her son who allegedly stole the items gradually in the past. Her son also allegedly pawned two of her cars without her knowledge and consent.
Apart from these, her son had been also deceiving her just to get money from her.
“Gipangbisyo g’yud ‘to niya. Maayo unta ug madakpan ‘to siya, (He is using it to fund his vices. I hope he gets arrested.)” the victim said.
The victim said she will decide the fate of her son once he gets arrested by the police. She is hoping for his immediate arrest as she fears for their safety. —MIT (FREEMAN)
