Lightning kills Fisherman

CEBU, Philippines - Lightning killed a fisherman who was gathering seashells in Barangay Gairan, Bogo City, last Friday morning.

Jessie Sam, 31, was electrocuted by lightning that hit the water near where he was wading.

PO3 James Susvilla of Bogo City Police Station narrated that Sam, a resident of Barangay Bungtod, went to the shore to gather seashells when lightning struck around 6 a.m.

“Kalit ra g’yud tong panghitaboa. Dag-om ra baya ta unya mingkilat og kalit,” Susvilla said.

Sam’s father, who just joined the victim, has said that he felt something prickle his feet when the lightning struck.

He turned around but did not see his son. He then discovered that the victim was already unconscious in the water.

The victim was rushed to the Bogo Provincial Hospital but the doctor declared him dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, a woman was found floating dead in the waters off Barangay Poblacion, Carmen town, last Friday afternoon.

Prior to the incident, the woman, who remains unidentified as of press time, was seen in the Pier Area and kept talking to herself in English.

The victim was described to be five feet tall, with a small build, and around 30 to 35 years old.   (FREEMAN)
