CEBU, Philippines - Even before Governor Gwendolyn Garcia decided to run next year for Congress in the third district, One Cebu party has always had a strong candidate.
This is according to incumbent third district Rep. Pablo John Garcia, the secretary-general of One Cebu and the party’s gubernatorial bet.
Pablo John made the statement following the claim of the Liberal Party that it has a strong candidate against Gwendolyn for Congress.
Although not yet official candidate of LP, Pinamungajan Mayor Geraldine Yapha already expressed readiness to face Garcia though she earlier admitted that the governor is a strong opponent.
Pablo John said that One Cebu is strong in the third district composed of Toledo City and the towns of Aloguinsan, Pinamungajan, Balamban, Asturias and Tuburan.
“Bisan kinsa modagan sa third, maglisud gyud ang pikas,” he said.
Yapha and Tuburan Mayor Democrito Diamante Jr. are the only non-members of One Cebu.
One Cebu members include Provincial Board Members Alex Binghay and Cesar Ian Geronimo Zambo; Toledo City Mayor Aurelio Espinosa, Aloguinsan Mayor Augustus Caesar Moreno; Balamban Mayor Ace Stefan Binghay and Asturias Mayor Allan Adlawan.
Pablo John claimed that 85 percent of 230 barangays in the third district are with One Cebu.
Gov. Garcia decided to discontinue her bid for a seat in the Senate after her allies and friends asked her to reconsider her decision.
In the latest Pulse Asia survey, Garcia only ranked from 24 to 29 among all senatoriables.
Garcia thanked One Cebu Party leaders in the third district for giving her the opportunity to continue serving Cebu in another capacity. (FREEMAN)
