VECO turns over two school bldgs.

CEBU, Philippines - The Visayan Electric Company, Inc. turned over two school buildings including some school chairs and tables recently.

VECO, in partnership with the Aklat, Gabay, Aruga tungo sa Pag-angat at Pag-asa (AGAPP) Foundation, turned over two newly-built school buildings located in the remote barangays of San Fernando and Consolacion towns.

The one-storey, two classroom buildings are fully-equipped structures with one room intended for classes while the other room serves as a library.

AGAPP chairperson Pinky Aquino-Abellada led the turnover ceremony of the colorful school building at Sangat Elementary School and Garing Elementary School in the towns of San Fernando and Liloan, respectively.

Abellada described the school in Garing as among the best AGAPP school building she’s seen as she acknowledged the help of Consolacion Mayor Teresita Alegado for landscaping the premises.

Meanwhile, Gawad Kalinga San Fernando Rey in Yati, Liloan, is the latest recipient of sustainable tables and chairs made of recycled wooden scrap wood from VECO which was turned over by VECO community relations manager Eric Ching.

The said chairs and tables are intended for the 92 Sibol students (Gawad Kalinga’s term for pre-school).

The said school is the 7th recipient of the environment-friendly kiddie tables and chairs.

VECO, in a statement, said that education remains a priority for their corporate social responsibility projects. 

At least 50 percent of its CSR budget is for education-related projects like school buildings, scholarships and school rewiring.  (FREEMAN)
