PESO Cebu is best in Central Visayas

CEBU, Philippines - The Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in Cebu bagged the 2011 Regional Best PESO Award under the first class provincial category of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

PESO manager Dr. Mathea M. Baguia said that the said award is in recognition of the quality and magnitude of employment services rendered and other DOLE programs implemented for gainful employment and for the creativity and leadership that served as inspiration to other PESO manager in the region.

Cebu Province bested Bohol, Siquijor and Negros Oriental for six consecutive years now. As the top regional performer, Cebu will represent the Regional PESO Managers or REPESOM-7 in the 2011 National Best PESO Award on October 10-14 in Baguio City.

Baguia hopes that their sixth try in the national level, they would already land in the top spot as they now meticulously managed the packaging of documents they submitted for the national level.

Part of their new program is the Obra Negosyo Eskwela, a brainchild of Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, which is now on its third season. The program is a strong partnership between the private and public entities.

The said program was very successful in the past two seasons in terms of employment, according to Baguia.

Baguia said that the new PESO regional director Ma. Gloria Tango was also very supportive of the Obra Negosyo Eskwela and even handed starter kits for the program.

“She is an inspiration to all regional directors. She is also meticulous in the packaging of the documents that we submitted for the national level,” said Baguia.

Aside from the said program, PESO also has six job fairs, three for the local and another three for the overseas.

Baguia said that their strength in winning comes from the special recruitment authority (SPA) activities, wherein employers outside Cebu conduct the SPA activities here.

Baguia, who is now serving the office for 20 years, will be among the awardees during the National Congress as DOLE will be giving awards for those who have been PESO managers for 12 years and above. — (FREEMAN)
