CEBU, Philippines - The One Cebu Party will not run out of good candidates for the second district’s Provincial Board seats according to the parties secretary-general, third district Rep. Pablo John Garcia.
Garcia made this statement after its two incumbent PB members, Peter John Calderon and Wilfredo Caminero, transferred to the Liberal Party.
A mayor from second district said they are endorsing Alegria Mayor Emelita Guisadio to be one of the candidates.
Guisadio is reportedly open for the position should One Cebu pick her as its PB candidate.
Moalboal Mayor Inocentes Cabaron said they are also considering Guisadio’s husband, former Alegria mayor and now councilor, Raul.
“Certainly, they are very qualified. We will take it up in a meeting with party leaders and second district mayors,” Garcia told The FREEMAN.
Another name being considered is former Boljoon Mayor Deogenes Derama and another former mayor in the second district.
One Cebu Party is also reportedly considering Dalaguete Mayor Ronald Allan Cesante to be one of its candidates for PB member in next year’s polls.
Second District Rep. Pablo “Pabling” Garcia said Cesante is “on top” of the list of emerging leaders in the district.
Other districts which One Cebu has yet to name its candidates for PB are the fifth and the sixth.
A source said former Mandaue City vice mayor Carlo Fortuna is being eyed by One Cebu for PB in the sixth district but there is no confirmation yet.
One slot in the third district will be vacated if PB Member Alex Binghay will push through with his desire to run for Congress.
Garcia is One Cebu’s bet for governor with former Danao City vice mayor Ramon “Boboy” Durano IV as his runningmate.
The Garcia-Durano tandem has been introduced during their visits in different towns.
Filing of certificates of candidacy is on October 1 to 5. — (FREEMAN)
