CEBU, Philippines - It seems that the Cebu City Government is wasting almost P3,000 a day on job order workers tasked to repair a house affected by a city government project.
This is because these workers just stay in the project site doing nothing as the materials needed have not been delivered.
There are eight of them and each is receiving P340 a day.
The city government constructed an access road on a lot owned by one Amelita Sola at the back of the Fort San Pedro.
The city will buy 87 square meters of Sola’s lot at P2.039 million for the project and promised to repair the damage on Sola’s house caused by the construction of the alley.
There were 30 workers tasked to construct the perimeter fence and only eight were left to repair Sola’s house.
The FREEMAN learned that these job order workers are under the Cebu City School Board but were just detailed to help in the access road project.
The FREEMAN visited the area last Thursday and witnessed that the workers were just sitting there doing nothing.
“Wala man mi mahimo sir kay wala may materyales,” one worker said.
“Dugay na kaayo na sila nga walay mga trabaho. Magduwa ra na sila’g baraha ug dayon mangatulog kay wala man sila’y magamit nga materyales,” Sola told The FREEMAN.
Both Councilor Jose Daluz III who represents the mayor in the City School Board and City Administrator Jose Marie Poblete were not available for comment yesterday.
Sola is yet to receive the payment for her property from the city government.
Daluz asked the City Council to authorize the mayor to sign a memorandum of agreement with Sola for the payment of her lot at P2,039,500.
But the City Council has not approved it yet because of some inconsistencies of documents.
The City Appraisal Team said the lot is worth P15,000 per square meter which means the total amount for the 87 square meters would not reach P2,039,500. — (FREEMAN)
