Two men shot dead in Cebu City, Carcar

CEBU, Philippines - Two men were killed in separate shooting incidents in Cebu City and Carcar City.

In Carcar City, Eugene Alicaba, 35, an ex-convict, died inside his house after he was shot repeatedly by an unidentified person.

Investigation showed that Alicaba was watching television in his house in Upper Magsipit, Barangay Liburon around 8:30 p.m. the other night when the dog outside suddenly barked.

This caught Alicaba’s attention and prompted him to go out and verify. Just as he opened the door, the suspect who was hiding in the shadows shot him several times, hitting him on the head and other parts of his body.

Alicaba was rushed to the Carcar Emergency Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.

PO2 Rosendo Binondo of the Carcar City Police said they are now looking at the victim’s background to determine the possible motive of the shooting.

Binondo said Alicaba was paroled and had just been released last year from the Iwahig Penal Colony in Palawan where he was jailed for murder.

“Posible related gyud na sa iyang kaso,” Binondo said, adding, that there was no witness to the incident. Even the victim’s wife and child who were in the house did not see the assailant.

Meanwhile, house after the Carcar incident, two men opened fire at Melecio Balmori, Jr. alias “Kingkong,” in Barangay Camputhaw, Cebu City at 2 a.m. yesterday.

Balmori, 42, a resident of the place, sustained gunshot wounds in different parts of his body.

Responding policemen found Belmori sprawled inside a small room in Purok 2 where he was allegedly playing pinball on a coin-operated machine.

The assailant suddenly barged inside the room and, without any word, shot the victim several times before fleeing.

A slug was recovered from the crime scene. Police are still investigating the motive behind the attack.  (FREEMAN)
