Salimbangon pledges to build a CTU campus in San Remigio

CEBU, Philippines - A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was recently signed between the Office of Cebu 4th Congressional District Representative Benhur Salimbangon, the Cebu Technological University (CTU) and the Municipality of San Remigio for construction of a school building in the said town.

Under the MOU, the CTU undertakes to provide the required administrative support, supervision, direction, and management for the over-all operation of the extension campus.

The Office of Cebu 4th Congressional District Representative thru Rep. Benhur Salimbangon, meanwhile, pledges to fund the construction of the school building by allocating an amount from his Priority Development Assistance Fund.

The local government of San Remigio through Mayor Jay Olivar, for its part, will identify and provide the land upon which the extension campus will be established.

It is CTU’s vision to be the Center of Development in Science and Technology Education and Training for Undergraduate and Graduate Studies so as to continually produce globally competent individuals.

The local governemnt of San Remigio, in signing the agreement, cited its desire to provide affordable, quality, and relevant higher education that is accessible and capable of providing continuing intellectual growth and advancement in learning and research to its people.

Salimbangon recognizes that there is a need to provide support to the local government of San Remigio to attain its objective of providing accessible quality education to its people.

Last June 23, a memorandum of agreement was also signed between Salimbangon and CTU for a grant of P1 million from the latter’s PDAF for the upgrading of the university’s facilities.

Under the MOA, the P1 million financial assistance will be used to upgrade the facilities for ladderization of Marine Engineering Program and for assistance to identified scholars taking Bachelor of Science in Fishery at CTU- Daanbantayan Campus.

Of the P1 million, P700,000 will be used for the upgrading of facilities while the remaining P300,000 will be used as scholarship assistance for the Bachelor of Science in Fishery (BSFi) for the incoming First Year of the First Semester Academic Year 2012-2013 and for every semester thereafter until graduation. — (FREEMAN)
