CITOM to reroute traffic for SOCA

CEBU, Philippines - The City Traffic Operations Management has advised that portions of M.C. Briones and Burgos Streets will be closed on Monday for the second State of the City Address of Mayor Michael Rama.

The said streets will be closed starting 1 p.m. until the end of the SOCA activities.

The portion of M.C. Briones that will be closed to traffic is from corner D. Jakosalem St. to Burgos St. The portion of Burgos St. that will be closed is from corner MCWD to M.C. Briones.

CITOM advised that the Compaña Maritima grounds will be available for parking for city hall clients and employees on Monday as the Plaza Sugbo will be unavailable for parking to give way to the activity.

“Public Utility Vehicles are advised to follow the signages redirecting them as a result of the closure. Private vehicles passing thru are advised to seek alternate routes to arrive at their destination,” CITOM advised.

CITOM Executive Director and lawyer Rafael Christopher Yap warned motorists that several intersections within the vicinity including Osmeña Boulevard, Legaspi Street, D. Jakosalem Street, Burgos Street and M.J. Cuenco may experience congestion.

“Road signages and traffic enforcers will be in place to advice motorists of the road closure and alternate directions,” CITOM said.

The second SOCA of Mayor Rama will start with a mass at 2 p.m. to be followed by the soft opening of the Senior Citizens Park, the blessing and distribution of heavy equipment and vehicles for the different barangays and the SOCA proper at 4.pm.

Rama has invited different sectors including the 75 distinguished families of Cebu City.

He has also invited Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, some foreign dignitaries and other VIPs.

His SOCA shall talk about his accomplishments in the past year, his future plans and a special report on the status of the South Road Properties.

Rama wants to explain to the public why selling lots at the SRP is necessary to generate more income to fund basic services. — (FREEMAN)
