CEBU, Philippines - An organic fertilizer called Masinag was introduced by Greenly Earth Ventures yesterday morning at Don Merto’s Restaurant along Juana Osmeña St.
According to Nenita Dela Cruz, a professor at the Central Luzon State University and the speaker during the press conference, the organic fertilizer is made of plant extract and enhances the maturity of crops. They will start using the fertilizer here in Cebu this July on corn crops in Tuburan town.
A liter of the product costs P750. The liquid-based fertilizer took seven years develop and first saw use in Tarlac five years ago.
The fertilizer can be applied to the leaves or the roots by watering and is easy to apply. Masinag was also touted as being useful to any type of crops and can make them resistant to diseases.
The fertilizer is a product of Revolutionary Solutions Technologies and Products Inc., a private company that develops organic products from renewable resources.
Their primary goal is to provide farmers with farming technology that will significantly increase farm production while decreasing dependency on the use of synthetic chemical based products that harm the environment. Greenly Earth Ventures is a Cebu-based group of entrepreneurs who advocate organic farming and making cheaper fertilizers more accessible to farmers. (FREEMAN)
