Carcar gunmen identified

CEBU, Philippines - The Carcar City police have identified the three men who killed two and injured one in P. Vasquez St., Sitio Luan-Luan, Barangay Poblacion I, Carcar City last Thursday.

Sr. Supt. Patrocinio Comendador, director of the Cebu Provincial Police Office, said that the gunmen are members of a known group but he refused to say whether it’s a fraternity or robbery group.

The Provincial Intelligence Branch is helping with the probe.

Comendador added that based on their assessment, the two parties were not familiar with each other so personal grudge was ruled out.

“Possible paregla lang gyud ni or mistaken identity,” he said.

The provincial director added that these are the same gunmen involved in the shooting a few weeks ago where a 13-year-old boy was hurt in Sitio Tubod, Barangay Valladolid. The boy was with two companions practicing for a dance competition when gunmen on board a motorcycle passed by and shot at them.

“Kining grupoha ug makakita’g pundok-pundok ilang hadlukon dayon,” Comendador said. (This group shoot at random people who are gathering in one place just to scare them.)

He further said that the police are not after the entire group, only the three members involved in the criminal act.

Those who were killed during the recent shooting incident were a certain Glen of Dauis, Mayacabac, Bohol and Reggie Pabroa, 16. Glen was shot in the stomach while Pabroa was hit in the head. Juanito Saraga, 41, also of Bohol was injured in the thigh.

The victims were just drinking in front of the house of Ruben dela Peña when three men on board a motorcycle stopped and shot at them several times. The gunmen sped off heading towards Sitio Dapdap, Barangay Poblacion III to Barangay Liburon.

Three bullet holes were found at the gate and three others hit the concrete wall of the house. Police also recovered five empty shells of 9mm caliber pistol and two slugs of an unknown caliber of firearm. (FREEMAN)
