CEBU, Philippines - The City Traffic Operations Management (CITOM) alloted a budget of P50 million for the thermoplastic road marking paint which will be used for the renovation of the pavement markings in all the city roads.
This is to address complaints from motorists and enforcers regarding the fading or erased pavement markings, which is also one of the reasons identified to have contributed to traffic problems.
CITOM’s acting department head, Atty. Rafael Yap, said this would be the first time for the city to use this unique kind of paint as it has an extended life cycle as compared to conventional solvent-based paints. It has a mixture which will also make the painted markings serve as a reflector during nighttime.
“The thermoplastic road marking paint lasts longer with a span of over a year compared to those paints we’ve been using for years. During nighttime, as long as the vehicles will have headlights, the paint will also serve as a reflector,” said Yap.
The budget has already been approved as CITOM’s project for 2012 and the bidding is expected to start within this month until July.
The renovation will be divided into two phases. The first phase is estimated to start on August and will cover the national roads, junction boxes and the pedestrian lanes while the second phase will cover all the remaining roads in the city.
“We don’t want our investment wasted that’s why we made sure that whatever projects we will have, it would be worth it. We will try to cover all the roads in Cebu for this purpose,” Yap said.
