CEBU, Philippines - Mayor Michael Rama yesterday instructed the carpenters of the Cebu City School Board to speed up the repair of the defective chairs of the public school students as some schools in the city need more chairs and tables.
Rama personally saw several defective desks and chairs at the Abellana National School that were just piled up at the back of the building because these could no longer be used during the opening of classes on Monday.
He instructed his education consultant, Ester Cubero, to facilitate the quick transport of the defective desks and chairs to the City School Board’s warehouse in Barangay Labangon where defective chairs and desks are being repaired.
Rama yesterday visited several public elementary and high schools in the city during the holding of the “Brigada Eskwela” for him to see in person the things that need immediate attention.
According to Rama, he is very much concerned with the needs of the schools that is why he quickly arranged and asked the contractors and suppliers doing business at the City Hall to help the repair of classrooms.
Personnel from the City’s School Board were seen bringing pieces of plywood and other construction materials to different schools to be ready for the opening of classes this Monday.
But Cebu City South District Rep. Tomas R. Osmeña, in a separate interview, said Rama’s inspection is mere gimmick as repairs should have been done after the end of classes. (FREEMAN)
