CEBU, Philippines - The Carcar City police has started the manhunt operation against the killer of the son of Mayor Nicepuro Apura after two witnesses have positively identified the gunman.
Inspector Arvi Arbuis, deputy chief of the Carcar City Police Station, said two witnesses have recognized the gunman who shot Carl Vinsun Apura while attending a disco last Sunday dawn in Sitio Upper Tubod, Barangay Valladolid.
Arbuis said they have already the name of the gunman and his four cohorts but refused to reveal them pending arrest. Arbuis said they will be conducting the hot pursuit operation against the gunman as well as prepare the criminal complaints to be filed before the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office next week.
Cebu Provincial Police Office director Patrocinio Comendador said that based on their investigation, the motive of the shooting could be personal grudge. Although he said they are still looking at the possibility that it has something to do with the victim’s membership of the Alpha Kappa Rho fraternity.
“Naa lang ni sila’y butang nga nainitan pero kaila ra gyud ni sila (they knew each other but they have argued on something),” Comendador said.
Atty. Clarence Paul Oaminal, adviser and legal counsel of the Akrho, meanwhile, assured their rival fraternity that they see the issue objectively and there is no need for them to worry.
Oaminal issued the statement after Rico Osmeña, spokesperson of Tau Gamma Phi fraternity, questioned the police’s zeroing in on the fraternity angle.
“Nasagmuyo mi sa insidente kay dili lang na karon nahitabo,(we are disappointed by the incident because this is not the first time it happened),” Oaminal said.
Oaminal has encouraged the perpetrator to surrender and face the consequences of his action.
“Since the police are the pillars in conducting investigation we leave it to them, nisalig mi ni Comendador sa pagsulbad sa kaso (we trust Comendador to solve the case),” he said.— (FREEMAN)
