Police presence in Lapu-Lapu's barangays hailed

CEBU, Philippines - The deployment of at least one policeman in every barangay in Lapu-Lapu City is a big contribution to the drive against crimes.

According to Lapu-Lapu City Police Office director, Senior Superintendent Rey Lendon Lawas, the move is one way of maintaining good relationship between the police and the barangay people.

Lawas said the Pulis sa Barangay Program of the Philippine National Police is not only aimed to address the problem of peace and order but also help other concerns that need police support.

The smuggling of marine resources is also one of the problems in Lapu-Lapu City, prompting the city government to launch the Task Force Kalikasan together with the police.

The Task Force Kalikasan already made several arrests against those who are involved in marine smuggling.

A policeman deployed in every barangay will serve as the eyes and ears of the police against any illegal activity.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza said that people in the barangay have now access to the police on the peace and order problem.

Leo Marcado, president of the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC), also shared the same observation with Radaza.  (FREEMAN)
