Beautiful Cebu Movement honors sponsors

CEBU, Philippines - Officers of the Beautiful Cebu Movement Foundation Inc. honored its donors and sponsors the other night for helping the foundation raise P6.7 million for the “restoration and re-invigoration” of Osmeña Boulevard in Cebu City.

The foundation recently held a Masquerade Ball as a fund-raising activity to help the City Government in its beautification efforts.

The foundation, spearheaded by philantropist-businesswoman Mariquita Salimbangon-Yeung, is thanking generous individuals and companies for helping them realize “every Cebuano’s dream of having a beautiful and clean Cebu”.

Businesswoman Margie Lhuillier, co-chairman of the foundation, said Cebu and the Cebuanos will “truly be forever indebted and grateful for their contributions, without which, the foundation’s endeavor would not have been realized.”

“We know that your love for Cebu is unconditional, and it is our hope that you will continue to collaborate in future endeavors,” Lhuillier said.

Those who were given tribute for their contribution for the success of the Masquerade Ball were Waterfront Hotel Cebu City, Smart Communications, Cebu Holdings, Sta. Lucia Realty, Michel Lhuillier, Glenn Soco, Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian, Mayor JV Ejercito, Segundino Selma, Junjet Primor, Vince Escario and Nancy Roble.

Officers of the foundation who were given recognition for their huge sales in the selling of the Masquerade Ball’s ticket are Belinda Wong, Betsy Quisumbing, Atty. Jojie Decal, Agnes Huettel and Meren Gepilano.

Huettel, in her speech, said that this type of effort clearly shows that everyone believes in the cause of the group and instill a sense of pride for all Cebuanos in keeping Cebu beautiful.

So far, the foundation was able to provide more than 100 lamp posts from Fuente Rotunda to Capitol and from Fuente Rotunda to Sanciangco St.

The foundation is likewise thankful for the support of Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia who took the initiative in requesting six contractors to do the repairs of the road and the sidewalk for free.

Yeung earlier said that the City Government has no counterpart for this multi-million restoration project so as not to burden the city.

Yeung and her team is tasked to raise millions of pesos for the beautification project which includes lighting the trees, installing lamp posts and concreting with bricks the sidewalks from Sanciangko St. down to Osmeña Boulevard including the center island.- (FREEMAN)
