CEBU, Philippines - An 86-year-old woman died after a bus hit her at the national highway in Barangay Daanlungsod, Oslob Sunday afternoon.
Teofila Puson was declared dead on arrival at the Oslob District Hospital where she was taken by the driver, Roberto Daugdaug, 38, of Barangay Poblacion, Argao.
PO3 Nelson Saquibal, traffic investigator, said Daugdaug was driving the Ceres bus bearing plate number GWK-681 heading to Bato, Samboan from Cebu City when the accident happened.
Daugdaug said the victim suddenly crossed the highway prompting him to swerve supposedly to avoid hitting Puson. However, the victim went backward upon seeing the approaching Ceres bus.
The victim was thrown off few meters away from the highway because of the impact. The victim sustained severe injuries in the head and in different parts of her body.
After bringing the victim to the hospital, Daugdaug turned himself in at the Oslob police station where he is currently detained. A criminal complaint for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide is now being prepared by the police against the driver.
The management of the bus company however offered financial assistance to the victim and asked for a possible out-of-court settlement. (FREEMAN)
