Cops uproot marijuana in Toledo City

CEBU, Philippines - Policemen in Toledo City uprooted more than 300 stalks of fully-grown marijuana plants in a mountain barangay in the city last Friday morning.

The police were also able to identify the caretakers of two marijuana plantations where the plants were uprooted, although they failed to arrest them.

SPO4 Gil Lastimosa of the Toledo City Police Station said they found the plantations after a tip from a concerned citizen that marijuana was being planted in Sitio Lubo, Barangay Captain Claudio.

Toledo Police led by their chief, Supt. Julian Entoma, verified the information after they saw the two marijuana plantations situated just few meters from each other.

About half a kilometer from the plantations, Entoma’s team spotted two men, who appeared to be farmers, taking care of the said plants.

The police immediately proceeded to the site but the farmers hastily escaped.

After uprooting the plants, the police conducted a follow-up operation and were able to identify the two owners of the plantations.

A total of 172 fully-grown marijuana plants ready for harvest were recovered from one of the plantations while 137 more were recovered from the other.

Charges are now being prepared against the plantation owners.  (FREEMAN)
