CEBU, Philippines - A 63-year-old grandmother was arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle drugs inside the Cebu City Jail yesterday afternoon.
Gloria Gutierrez, of Barangay Duljo-Fatima, Cebu City, was arrested after seven sachets of white crystalline substance believed to be shabu were found in one of her pockets during a body search.
She was on her way to visit her son, Edwin, 38, who was jailed last year for four different drug cases.
JO4 Lindo Bael, investigation unit chief, said the sachets were wrapped in a transparent plastic bag. It was JO1 Gretchen Ramis who found the drugs when she searched Gutierrez.
Bael said Gloria denied ownership of the drugs and said the pants were not hers.
She believes someone may have slid the drugs inside her pocket without her knowing, he said.
The seized items were sent to the Philippine National Police crime lab yesterday for chemical analysis to confirm if it is really shabu.
Like his son, Gloria will be charged for violating the Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 anytime today, Bael said.
Gloria was turned over to the Guadalupe Police Station for temporary detention last night. (FREEMAN)
