CEBU, Philippines - Two teenagers said to have committed suicide through hanging in separate incidents in Cebu City and Talisay City over the weekend.
In Cebu City, a 15-year-old boy was found hanging dead from a mango tree in a hilly portion of Barangay Sudlon last Saturday morning.
Police said a yellow nylon rope was tied around the boy’s neck and the other end tied to a branch of the mango tree.
A 74-year-old woman was the one who found the boy when she went uphill to answer the call of nature. The woman then informed a barangay councilman who, in turn, sought help from the police.
The boy, a Grade 6 student of an integrated school in the community, was wearing a bonnet, white shirt, dark pants and white shoes.
He has been brought down from the tree and brought to his house when authorities arrived.
PO3 Geoffrey Gutual of the Homicide Section said the boy’s parents had no idea why their son committed suicide. They said though that he was suffering from a certain disorder.
“Usahay daw mawala sa hunahuna. Mulakaw daw nang bataa bisan asa unya kung mangatol ang lawas, pang-ibton iyang mga buhok ug balahibo,” Gutual said. At that time the boy’s body was found, he reportedly no longer had eyebrows.
His parents had reportedly brought him to a doctor and he was prescribed with vitamins. His real condition, however, was not known.
Early on, the boy was reportedly found by tanods bringing a nylon rope in an attempt to commit suicide.
Meanwhile, 18-year-old Levi Rivera was also found hanging dead from a tree in Barangay Tabunok, Talisay City yesterday morning.
Police are looking at jealousy as the reason behind the suicide.
Josephine Dollier, the victim’s live-in-partner, reportedly told the police that Rivera would scold her every time she goes to her neighbors’ house. — (FREEMAN)
