Road mishap kills 1, injures 7 in Lapu-Lapu

CEBU, Philippines - A woman died while seven others were injured during a road accident involving three vehicles at the national highway in sitio Tacan, Barangay Ibo, Lapu-Lapu City Saturday evening.

Venciolita Maglasang, 43, of Lilo-an town died on the spot when a PUJ she was riding in turned upside down after being hit by a taxi cab and a Toyota Innova.

Five other PUJ passengers- John Louie Cellon, 19; Ralph John Docusin, 20; Roy Jessie Trepacios, 19; Jerwin Maglasang, 7; and Novemae Maglasang, 9,- were rushed to the Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital together with the driver, Lantie Lagangga, 31, of Barangay Mactan.

The driver of the Toyota Innova, Angelito Labor, 44, of sitio Angasil, Mactan was also injured during the accident.

The PUJ was heeding towards the Mactan Export Zone in Barangay Buaya when the taxi cab tried to overtake but miscalculated hitting the passenger jeepney instead.

The PUJ swerved to the opposite lane where it was hit by the approaching Toyota Innova. The PUJ turned upside down because of the impact pinning down Maglasang.

The taxi driver left his cab after the accident.

PO2 Romello Adolfo, Lapu-Lapu City police traffic investigator, said they are still investigating the incident to identify the taxi driver. — (FREEMAN)
