CEBU, Philippines - A policeman, who was driving his passenger multicab while on his day off, was divested of his earnings by a lone robber a few minutes after midnight yesterday along the National Highway of Barangay Estaca, Compostela.
PO1 Maximo Moneva Jr., 26, of Barangay Tapul, Tabogon and assigned at the City Public Safety Company of the Mandaue City Police Office gave his P210 cash to Rexil Sacasan, 28, of Sitio Colo, Barangay Cahumayan, Danao City who aimed a .22 revolver at the policeman.
Moneva said he was just driving his passenger multicab bearing plate number CEO-342 towards Compostela town from Hypermarket, Barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City and upon reaching San Antonio, Barangay Jubay in Liloan, Sacasan flagged him down for a ride.
PO2 Ronald Luna, Compostela police investigator, said Moneva always drives his multicab during his days off to earn extra income.
Moneva alleged that when they reached Barangay Estaca, Sacasan pointed his gun at Moneva and declared a hold-up which prompted the victim to hand over his earnings.
Sacasan was still on board the vehicle when they entered Barangay Poblacion, Compostela.
Upon reaching Julie’s Bakeshop, Moneva decided to suddenly step on the brakes, making the suspect lurch forward and hit his face on the front seat.
This gave Moneva the chance to grab the revolver which led to a scuffle.
Moneva accidentally fired the revolver once hitting the right portion of Sacasan’s head and eventually arrested him.
Bystanders at the bakeshop who saw what happened immediately called the police for assistance.
Recovered from Sacasan’s possession was a Black Widow revolver loaded with four bullets and one empty shell of .22 magnum, a male wallet containing ID cards and other stolen items.
Sacasan was taken to the Compostela Health Center for medical treatment and was subsequently turned over to the police after the physician declared him out of danger. Charges for robbery and illegal possession of firearms are set to be filed against him today. (FREEMAN)
