CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama clarified that there will not be a total ban of Public Utility Jeepneys at the Fuente Osmeña Circle once his plan to decongest traffic in the area is implemented.
He clarified that PUJ access will only be limited because they will not be allowed to make a full turn round the circle going to their destination.
Rama said there are routes that PUJ can take instead of passing around the circle like Don Gil Garcia, Larsian Road, B Rodriguez, Arlington Pond, Juana Osmeña and J. Llorente streets.
He said the City Traffic Operations Management will finalize the route but he assured that there will be a dialogue with PUJ drivers and operators before they implement a new traffic route.
Rama said that since the circle will be limited to vehicles, he will extend the park and leave only three lanes available for vehicles.
The mayor said that extending the park will shorten the pedestrian, thus, increase their safety when crossing.
He also plans to change the system of parking from diagonal parking to horizontal parking.
Rama said that the Parks and Playgrounds Commission, the M. Lhuillier and CITOM will be in-charge of the project.
He will also consult Governor Gwendolyn Garcia since there is a pending case over the ownership of the property. (FREEMAN)
