Basak-Pardo brgy. capt. wants total re-blocking

CEBU, Philippines - Basak-Pardo Barangay Captain Dave Tumulak wants the Cebu City government to implement a “total re-blocking” before a large fire hits his barangay.

Tumulak said he has seen the urgency of re-blocking the entire barangay which is at high risk of an impending catastrophic fire because they only have Natalio Bacalso Avenue and Tagunol as their major roads which firefighters can access.

“Ako hangyo sa syudad sa Sugbo nga mo-pahigayon sila og re-blocking diri sa barangay kay ang pinaka worst disaster kay ang sunog kay wala man ta’y mga agi-anan,” Tumulak told The FREEMAN.

Tumulak does not want the “much needed re-blocking” to be done only after a major blaze saying that it should be done before such crisis hits his barangay which has over 20,000 residents who all live in areas which he considers to be at risk especially with big fires.

“Ang gihimo man gud karon sa syudad, mag-re-blocking ug humana ang sunog. Kun mahimo unta nga mo-pahigayon og re-blocking nga wala pay sunog,” he said.

Tumulak added that such plans will save the entire barangay from much bigger problems. “Ang re-blocking para pagluwas og kabtangan ug kinabuhi,” he said.

He believes that all of those who will be affected will understand his thrust, which will be for their benefit, adding that such sacrifice will not be wasted.

“Kay makasabot sad ang mga tawo nga ma-apektuhan kay para ra ni sa tanan,” Tumulak said.

He even assured those who will be affected with a relocation site which he said the barangay will surely provide.

“Para pagbutang og dalan aron ma-accessible na sa mga firetrucks unya mo-asenso na ang barangay kay naa naman ang dalan,” Tumulak said.

The captain’s pronouncement came after a room was partially burned at 10:37 a.m. yesterday.

The fire allegedly started in a room rented by a certain Maricris who left burning coals in her room. The house is owned by Jocelyn Navaro.

SFO3 Jimmy Layao told The FREEMAN that the area is at risk of major fires. He said the area is very congested with houses mostly made of light materials. The area also has narrow passageways which made firefighting very difficult.

Fortunately through the help of their neighbors, and the fast response of the barangay emergency unit, the fire was immediately put out. “Nagpasalamat mi sa dinalian nilang pag tawag sa barangay,” Tumulak said. (FREEMAN)
