CEBU, Philippines - A contractor of Tsuneishi Heavy Industries Inc. was declared dead at the hospital after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a tricycle on the municipal road in Barangay Aliwanay, Balamban town, yesterday morning.
Nelson Geollegue, 36, of Barangay Baliwagan, Balamban, died of severe injuries while the driver of the tricycle Junbert Ponteraz, 29, of Barangay Arpili was also taken to the Balamban District Hospital but is already in safe condition.
Geollegue was on board his Yamaha Vega motorcycle with license plate numbers 9479 YX heading to work in Barangay Buanoy.
He was allegedly trying to overtake another motorcycle he was tailing and intruded into the opposite lane when he ran right into the approaching tricycle driven by Ponteraz with license plate numbers 7Q3189.
Ponteraz alleged that he did not expect Geollegue to cross over into his lane.
Ponteraz voluntarily surrendered to the Balamban Police Station after the incident, however, he was released yesterday afternoon after both parties amicably settled the matter.
PO2 Cesar Climaco said the family of Geollegue refused to file charges against Ponteraz. (FREEMAN)
