Task Force Ellah Joy welcomes probe on "spy"

CEBU, Philippines - Senior Superintendent Patrocinio Comendador, head of the Task Force Ellah Joy, welcomes the investigation to be conducted by the Office of the Ombudsman-Visayas on the alleged policeman-spy of Bella Ruby Santos.

Comendador said the task force assures to give anti-graft investigators whatever information necessary.

“They have their own mandate but our main focus here is only to arrest Santos,” he said.

Assistant Deputy Ombudsman for the Visayas Virginia Palanca-Santiago had announced she will docket newspaper reports on the allegation that an agent of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group has been receiving a monthly stipend of P20,000 from Santos.

She will give the report to the Office of the Ombudsman for the Military and Other Law Enforcement Offices (MOLEO).

Santos, according to allegations, has managed to elude arrest because she was being tipped by a spy from within the CIDG.

Santiago reportedly said that it would be appropriate for the MOLEO to conduct a fact-finding to determine who among the CIDG agents is involved, if found true.

Comendador had earlier said he did not receive any information about the matter. Even Sr. Supt. Jose Pante, director of the CIDG-7, also gave the same statement.

Comendador further said that such an issue is only part of the hazards of their manhunt operation against Santos.

“If mo-focus mi anang investigation dili man na makatabang namo sa pag-arrest ni Santos,” he said, adding they don’t want to be distracted by the issue.

Santos and her British boyfriend Ian Charles Griffiths are suspects of the kidnap-slay of Ellah Joy Pique last February in Minglanilla town. (FREEMAN)
