CEBU, Philippines - A Kenyan national was arrested for drug possession upon her arrival at the Mactan Cebu International Airport from Qatar yesterday afternoon.
Asha Atieno Ogutu, 24, was arrested by National Bureau of Investigation-7 personnel who confiscated from her at least three kilos of suspected shabu.
Ogutu reportedly arrived at MCIA around 4 p.m. onboard Qatar Airways Flight 656 from Doha, Qatar.
The NBI operatives and airport’s K9 security personnel detected the two packs of the illegal drug hidden inside Ogutu’s luggage during inspection.
Ogutu’s arrest came after the NBI received a tip regarding her flight to Cebu.
Investigators believed that Ogutu has a local contact after she claimed that it was her first time to travel to Cebu.
NBI-7 assistant regional director Lauro Reyes said they are disappointed by the “non-cooperation” of the Qatar Airlines management.Reyes said they sought for Ogutu’s records but the airline management refused to give them the documents. NBI regional director Eduardo Villarta headed the team that arrested Ogutu.
Aside from Villarta and Reyes, the NBI team also composed of Special Investigator Arnel Pura, Jedidah Hife and Rey Villordon. (FREEMAN)
