Military men undergo leadership training

CEBU, Philippines - The 3rd Army Training Group of Training and Doctrine Command is conducting their squad training exercises to mold them as future squad leaders and to inculcate combat leadership in the Philippine Army.

About 46 men with ranks private first class to sergeant undergo the 16-week Infantry Non-Commission Officer basic course.

Most of the students are from Visayas and Mindanao areas who are also regular members of the Philippine Army and have been serving the unit from three to eight years now.

The first of the series of exercises started yesterday morning at the view park of the Central Command at Camp Lapu-Lapu, barangay Lahug, Cebu City.

Their instructor, Captain Jose Chico, said they are focusing on Filipino leadership and to develop their capacities in combat.

The students are trained in different combat scenarios such as counter-ambush, raids, and conducting patrols.

“We have to apply what they learned di naman pwedeng pala-ging lecture,” Chico said.

Chico added they had lectures and for the past four weeks had their tactical exercises. Now, they are applying what they have learned inside the classroom.

Next week, the group will be having another practical education at the parade grounds of the Central Command which will start at 8:00 in the morning and ends at 5:00 in the afternoon. (FREEMAN)
